WelcomeYou'll find here a collection of pages that cover my professional and personal activities. My name is Mike Higginbottom and I'm a software developer. I believe it's possible to be professional, and yet still maintain a sense of humour. Hopefully that will come through in these pages. Likewise, you don't need to talk about synergies and cost bases to save people money with software. You just need a well crafted solution to a suitable problem. Nothing difficult there.
Speaking of 'craft', I'm coming to the conclusion that software development is a craft more than anything. Sure, it's part engineering, it's part science, part art, part mathematics, all mixed with a healthy dose of tedious code bashing. But what separates the finest craftsman from the mere journeymen is the sense of what works and what looks right that only comes from experience. That's what I'm striving for and hopefully that will come across too.
Peak41 was originally set up as a company in 1998 to support my contract work in the UK defence industry. Since then, I've moved on to smaller and better things working for a software house on the beautiful Yorkshire moors where I'm a senior developer working on collaboration software targeted at small businesses. Peak41 as a limited company is no more, but the name lives on as a 'brand name' that I use for any freelance work that I undertake.
There are pages here that relate to the freelance projects that I work on as well as the projects that I've worked on as either an employee or a contractor. You'll also find my CV and a collection of useful links and articles I've written. On a more personal front, there's information about things I find of interest away from the keyboard as well as the usual friends and family stuff that will presumably only be of interest to friends and family.
If you want to contact me for any reason please feel free to email me.
